A joint status report was filed on April 30, 2026, in the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s civil case against Gautam and Sagar Adani, outlining recent procedural developments as a federal court in New York has stayed all briefing ahead of an anticipated motion to dismiss.

The development follows a direction by James R. Cho, who, on February 14, 2026, ordered the parties to file a joint status report in the matter. In compliance, the defendants and the Securities and Exchange Commission submitted a joint status update on April 30, 2026, outlining the procedural posture of the case and recent filings.

In the status report, counsel for Gautam and Sagar Adani said they were writing jointly with the SEC in response to the court’s earlier minute order, providing an update on the progress of the litigation and the parties’ anticipated next steps.’

“On April 7, 2026, Defendants filed a pre-motion conference letter explaining the grounds for their motion to dismiss the Complaint. On April 17, 2026, the Parties requested an extension of the briefing schedule. On April 20, 2026, Judge Garaufis scheduled a pre-motion conference for May 29, 2026 and stayed briefing for Defendants’ anticipated motion to dismiss until the date of the pre-motion conference,” counsel for the parties submitted before the Court.

Subsequently, in an order dated April 20, 2026, Nicholas G. Garaufis said the court had received the defendants’ consent request seeking an extension of the stipulated briefing schedule, along with a jointly proposed amended timeline. Accepting the request, the court directed that all briefing be stayed until the date of a pre-motion conference, which has been scheduled for May 29, 2026, at 2:00 pm.

The court further directed the SEC to be prepared at the conference to clarify whether it intends to amend its complaint. The deadline for the defendants to answer the complaint or otherwise move against it has also been extended through the date of the pre-motion hearing.

The order follows a pre-motion conference letter filed by the defendants earlier in April, setting out the grounds on which they plan to seek dismissal of the SEC’s complaint. After that filing, both sides jointly sought additional time to complete briefing, citing the procedural posture of the case.

The matter, titled SEC v. Adani et al., is pending before the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York. The latest order effectively puts the proceedings on hold until the court hears arguments on the proposed motion later this month.
