Seminar on Menstruation & Its Relationship with Human Rights

About I.E.R.L.

The Institute of Excellence in Research and Law (I.E.R.L.) is committed to promoting quality legal education, constitutional awareness, critical thinking, and socially relevant academic engagement among students and young learners.

Through free academic initiatives, seminars, discussions, and skill-based learning opportunities, I.E.R.L. seeks to empower individuals with knowledge that is practical, socially meaningful, intellectually rigorous, and transformative.

At I.E.R.L., we strongly believe that legal education must not remain confined to textbooks alone. It must actively engage with real social issues, challenge structural inequalities, and equip learners to think critically about law as an instrument of dignity, justice, and societal change.

About the Seminar

Menstruation is often discussed only as a biological or health-related subject. However, in reality, it is deeply linked with human dignity, equality, non-discrimination, bodily autonomy, access to education, workplace inclusion, and constitutional morality.

Across homes, schools, workplaces, and public institutions, menstruation continues to be surrounded by stigma, silence, social taboo, and structural exclusion.

These issues do not remain merely cultural—they often result in denial of equal participation, discriminatory institutional practices, lack of access to menstrual hygiene support, humiliation, social isolation, and barriers to dignity-based treatment, all of which raise serious human rights concerns.

This Two day academic seminar is designed to explore menstruation not merely as a social issue, but as a rights-based legal and constitutional issue.

It seeks to examine how menstrual stigma intersects with questions of fundamental rights, gender justice, labour dignity, workplace policy, educational access, and social justice.

The session will encourage participants to critically think about how law and policy can contribute toward building a society where menstruation is no longer treated as a source of shame or exclusion, but as a matter of rights, dignity, and equality.
