Duration of Internship

How did you apply?
I applied to Divakar Sir’s advocate office and personally visited his office, but he suggested his colleague, Srinath Sir, who is a famous criminal advocate in Bangalore and Gulbarga.
First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, and First Impression
It is a big office, inspired by Sir’s hard work and dedication.
Main Tasks
To study cases that my Sir was dealing with during that time, especially cheque bounce cases, drafting cases, IPC sections and their applicability, client meetings, and many more.
Work Environment
You’ll see advocates and juniors constantly discussing matters, checking files, preparing arguments, and sometimes handling clients at the same time.
The atmosphere can feel intense, especially when there are urgent hearings, but it’s also very learning-oriented.
People may not formally teach you, but if you observe carefully, you’ll pick up a lot. It is generally respectful, but expects you to be serious and attentive.
Good Things about the Internship
A litigation internship under a criminal advocate is one of the most valuable experiences for me because it gives real, ground-level exposure to how law actually works beyond textbooks.
You get to observe court proceedings, understand how cases move from FIR to trial, and learn practical skills like drafting petitions, organizing case files, and interacting with clients.
It helps build confidence, improves your communication, and gives you clarity about whether you truly enjoy courtroom practice. You also develop discipline, professional etiquette, and the ability to think quickly in real situations.
Most importantly, you learn directly from experienced advocates, which sharpens your legal understanding and prepares you for a future career in litigation.
Bad Things about the Internship
The long distance to travel daily, for about 2 hours, can be challenging. The work environment can be hectic and unpredictable, with long waiting hours in court and sometimes minimal direct involvement in important tasks.
Additionally, most internships are unpaid and offer limited comfort or facilities, which can feel exhausting over time.
Monthly Stipend
For all over 21 days of internship, I received ₹2,000.
Details about the Accommodation, Commuting to the Office
Accommodation and commuting during a litigation internship can be a bit demanding, especially in a busy city like Bangalore.
Most advocate chambers do not provide any accommodation, so interns usually arrange their own stay in nearby PGs, hostels, or shared flats, often choosing locations close to court complexes to save travel time.
Commuting becomes a daily routine, typically involving buses, the metro, or autos, and can be time-consuming due to traffic and the need to move between courts and the office.
This experience teaches you time management, independence, and how to adjust to a fast-paced city lifestyle while balancing professional responsibilities.
