कभी खेती-बाड़ी के लिए शानदार जगह रहा लखनऊ का बिजनौर, सिर्फ़ दो दशकों से कुछ ज़्यादा समय में तेज़ी से शहरी भीड़-भाड़ वाले इलाके में बदल गया है। यहाँ की दोमट मिट्टी इस इलाके को किसानों के लिए बहुत अच्छा बनाती थी। उन दिनों बिजनौर झील पानी का मुख्य स्रोत हुआ करती थी। खेती बंद होने और ज़मीन पर कंक्रीट की इमारतें बनने के कारण, यह झील उपेक्षा का शिकार हो गई। अब इस झील को फिर से ठीक करना बहुत ज़रूरी हो गया है, ताकि लखनऊ शहर के दक्षिणी उपनगरों के बड़े इलाकों में बस रहे हज़ारों लोगों के लिए ज़मीन के नीचे का पानी (groundwater) उपलब्ध हो सके।
Lucknow, its heritage-food-art and beyond has a new BlueGreen story to tell. Its the restoration of the Bijnor lake. Once a prime tank feeding farmlands, it steadily turned into a dumping ground-cesspool taken over by invasive plants. E.F.I with permission from Lucknow district administration, funding support from Kotak Mahindra Bank took on the task of defining-protecting the Bijnor lake.
