The city of Tumakuru, located in the semi-arid plains of southern Karnataka and surrounded by a landscape of rocky hillocks, lakes, and agricultural lands, is known for its rich cultural heritage and resilient natural ecosystems. Tumakuru has grown steadily as an important educational, industrial, and commercial center while retaining its deep connection to nature. With a network of traditional lakes, tanks, and open green spaces that have supported communities for generations, the city presents significant opportunities for ecological conservation and restoration. Over the past several years, E.F.I. has had the opportunity to work alongside local authorities, corporate partners, and community stakeholders to restore and conserve freshwater ecosystems and establish native afforestation sites across the region, contributing towards a greener, more climate-resilient, and biodiversity-rich Tumakuru.
