I applied for the internship by sending my CV and cover letter to the following email address. To apply for the internship, candidates are required to email their resume and a cover letter to internship@pradeeprai.com.

It is advisable to include a personalized note in the email highlighting your legal interests, skills, and reasons for wishing to intern at the chambers of Pradeep Rai, along with specifying the preferred office location, such as Mumbai or Noida.

First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, and First Impression

On the first day of my internship, I reported to the chamber at 9:30 a.m. and met Shreyansh Singh, who is the Head of the Mumbai office. After a brief introduction and an overview of the tasks scheduled for the day, I was assigned case briefing work. Following this, we visited the Bombay High Court.

There, I observed court proceedings and noted the arguments and other details that I found important. After the lunch break, I was taught how to extract documents from the filing section of the court. The day concluded with court hearings and discussions with sir.

Main Tasks

The main tasks assigned during the internship were as follows:

• Memo drafting
• Drafting legal notices
• Observing Supreme Court proceedings
• Preparing transcripts
• Identifying corrections in drafts
• Visiting the subordinate courts
• Reading charge sheets
• Bail drafting

Work Environment

The work environment in the chamber was very positive and provided ample opportunities for learning, both in terms of legal knowledge and the practical challenges of legal practice.

It also maintained a healthy balance between work and a positive atmosphere, with frequent discussions. Sir guided us very well in all tasks and often sat with us to explain and teach the work in detail. There were also lengthy discussions on cases and charge sheets.

Good Things about the Internship

The positive aspects of this internship included the opportunity to develop my research skills. Additionally, I was able to learn the skills required to become a competent advocate.

I also gained valuable insights into mediation matters and learned how to conduct myself in courtrooms.

Bad Things about the Internship

For me, the internship was a very positive experience, and there were no negative or unfavorable aspects.

It was an unpaid internship.

Details about the accommodation, commuting to the office

Staying in Mumbai is quite expensive. I stayed in a PG on Madha Road, which cost around ₹9,000 per month. Depending on individual needs, one can also find PG accommodations near the office, with rents typically ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹18,000 or more.

My PG was about 3 km from the office, so I travelled by auto every day. Buses are also available; however, one may need to walk nearly 1.5 km from the bus stop.

Anything else you want to share?

Generally, 5 to 10 interns are selected each month, depending on how early one applies. I would suggest applying one or two months in advance.

I applied for the month of May, and I feel that I did not receive as much exposure as expected because the courts were on vacation during that period. One more important point I would like to add is that Pradeep Rai rarely visits the Mumbai office.
