    About the Seminar

    The Indian Society of International Law and UNHCR India are organising a one-day academic seminar on “The Refugee Convention at 75: Then, Now and Beyond” on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, at ISIL.

    The seminar will take stock of the scholarly debate surrounding the 1951 Refugee Convention and generate policy-relevant research, with particular attention to developments in Asia and the Global South. It also aims to generate high-quality academic contributions suitable for publication in an edited volume and to inform legal scholarship, judicial practice and policymaking.

    Call for Papers

    Contributors are invited to submit papers under the following broad themes (non-exhaustive):

    Suggested Themes

    • How does the 1951 Refugee Convention serve State interests on peace and security, development and the realization of the SDGs?
    • Global South refugee hosting approaches: Lessons to be learnt
    • Externalization of refugee protection
    • Balancing National Security and Humanitarian Imperatives
    • Expanding Protection Space: Complementary Forms of Protection, Mixed Movements and People on the Move
    • From Detention to Dignity: Alternatives to detention
    • Progress from traditional Durable Solutions and international solidarity/cooperation: Integration, self-reliance, voluntary repatriation, resettlement and complementary pathways
    • Routes based approach: challenges of conflation between refugees and migrants and required responses

    Submission Guidelines

    • Abstract: Maximum 300 words with five keywords must be submitted by June 15, 2026.
    • Acceptance Notification: June 20, 2026.
    • Full Papers: 6000–7500 words must be submitted by July 10, 2026.
    • Authorship: Maximum two authors are allowed.
    • Last Date of Registration: July 10, 2026.
    • Submissions must be emailed to [email protected] with the subject as the name of the author(s) and the title of the paper, in MS Word format.
    • Citations must conform to ISIL Citation Style.
