If there is one thing that defines my law school experience at Symbiosis Law School (SLS), Nagpur, it is the breathtaking campus. Often described by students as a “Karan Johar Dream Campus,” the 75-acre world-class facility features stunning Italian-style architecture and lush greenery.

This “resort-like” infrastructure isn’t just for show; the aesthetic environment significantly reduces student burnout and fosters a creative mindset for legal writing and research. I would rate the campus 5 out of 5.

Smart Academics: Our 20 ICT-enabled, air-conditioned classrooms are designed to be acoustically friendly, ensuring that even the most intense lectures feel comfortable and focused.

The Library: A massive, AC-equipped “temple of knowledge” with 24/7 access to 18 premium legal databases like LexisNexis and SCC Online, offering the perfect quietude for research.

5-Star Living: The hostels offer luxury with AC rooms, individual study units, and en-suite bathrooms, making it feel like a “home away from home.”

Wellness & Recreation: The campus is a self-contained ecosystem featuring a modern gymnasium, a yoga hall, and premium sports fields for football and basketball.

In-House Perks: From high-speed Wi-Fi across the campus to popular food outlets like Domino’s and Subway, every necessity is available within the gates.

How are the academic culture and faculty in your college?

The academic environment at Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur, follows a clear “work hard, play hard” philosophy, combining rigorous legal training with a highly supportive and student-centric faculty. The institution has around 25 full-time faculty members, including Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors with diverse academic and professional expertise.

This core team is further strengthened by more than 30 visiting faculty members, many of whom are practicing advocates from the Bombay High Court and industry professionals, ensuring a strong balance between legal theory and practical exposure.

A defining strength of SLS Nagpur is faculty accessibility beyond the classroom. Professors are approachable and consistently support students who miss classes due to internships, moots, or competitions by re-explaining concepts and offering additional guidance.

Faculty members also actively mentor students to improve internal assessment scores through peer-learning initiatives and dedicated doubt-clearing sessions.

Campus life is equally vibrant, with annual events such as the Cultural Fest and the Attorney’s Cup fostering soft skills, teamwork, and networking. Candidates who qualify then appear for the Writing Ability Test (WAT), which evaluates their ability to articulate complex legal and social ideas clearly and concisely—an essential skill for aspiring lawyers, researchers, and editors.

The final stage is the Personal Interaction (PI), where a panel of experts from academia and the legal profession assesses communication skills, personality, and genuine inclination toward law.

The Legal Aid Centre, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), provides meaningful exposure through pro bono work, legal literacy drives like Gram Vidhi Chetna, and participation in Lok Adalats.

Additionally, specialized cells such as the Corporate Law Cell, IPR Cell, ADRC, and the Centre for Criminology and Forensic Science ensure representation for every legal discipline.

Internships form the backbone of this ecosystem and are a mandatory part of the curriculum every semester.

There is a clear, structured progression—students typically begin with NGO, district court, and research internships in the initial years and move on to assessment internships with leading law firms and corporates by their final year.

Students gain exposure across trial courts, High Courts, the Supreme Court, top-tier law firms, and corporate houses in India and abroad. Notably, the Career and Professional Development Cell has facilitated over 1,300 national internships in a single annual cycle.

Despite being a relatively new campus, placement outcomes have been impressive. Nearly 90% of students who opt for placements secure jobs. The average package ranges between ₹8–10 LPA, with the highest domestic package touching ₹26 LPA and international offers going up to ₹52 LPA.

Separate hostels are provided for boys and girls, with flexible room-sharing options such as double and triple sharing. Each room is air-conditioned and well-equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, individual study tables, wardrobes, shoe racks, and attached washrooms, ensuring both comfort and privacy.

Cleanliness and hygiene are given high priority. Professional housekeeping services are conducted daily, helping maintain a tidy and healthy atmosphere.

On-campus laundry facilities are available at nominal charges, reducing everyday stress and allowing students to focus on academics, moots, and internships.

Safety is ensured through round-the-clock security personnel and CCTV surveillance across hostel premises. The campus strictly enforces no-smoking and no-alcohol policies, along with regulated entry timing, usually set at 10:30 PM, with relaxations on weekends.

Dining facilities include a common mess that serves four nutritious meals daily, often described as a “home away from home.” A student-inclusive mess committee helps design a varied menu with non-vegetarian options and desserts.

While the “Karan Johar” campus and high-tech libraries are the visible perks, the true “best thing” about SLS Nagpur is the holistic professional ecosystem that turns a student into a practitioner.

The Global Edge: The college frequently hosts interactive sessions and guest lectures from international legal experts and academicians from abroad. This gives us a world-ready perspective on law, ensuring we aren’t just local lawyers, but global legal professionals.

The “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” Culture: Following the university’s core philosophy of “The World as One Family,” campus life is a blend of students from diverse cultures and backgrounds, creating a mini-India on 75 acres. This diversity is the best teacher for negotiation and empathy—two critical skills for any lawyer.

Skill-Based Capsule Courses: The college offers unique two-day and five-day “Capsule Courses” in collaboration with top law firms (like CNS Juris). These courses bridge the massive gap between classroom theory and real-world skills like Public Law Skills, Trial Advocacy, and Forensic Science.

A “Home Away from Home” Mentality: Despite the rigorous schedule, the college fosters a supportive atmosphere where seniors act as mentors rather than just superiors.

Whether it is helping a junior with their first Freshers’ Moot or guiding them through their first research article, the collaborative spirit is arguably the best part of the Symbiosis brand.

In your opinion, what are bad things about your college?

• The “Nagpur Heat” and AC Gaps:
  • While the classrooms and hostels are air-conditioned, Nagpur’s extreme summer heat (often crossing 45°C) is a major challenge.
  • Notably, the campus mess is not air-conditioned, making it extremely uncomfortable during peak summer months.
• The “Big Campus” Fatigue:
  • The campus is beautiful, but it requires a lot of walking.
  • A one-hour lunch break can feel short when you have to spend 20 minutes just walking to and from the mess.
• Strict Attendance and Medical Leave Policy:
  • The 75% attendance rule is strictly enforced.
  • Many students feel that medical leaves should be separate from the 25% allowance, as serious illnesses can quickly exhaust a student’s “buffer” and lead to exam debarment.
  • As one of my friends met with an accident and had to take bed rest for three months, it was actually very difficult for him to manage all these things at once.

Anything else you want to share?

I believe every law student has a story that can help someone else. My own journey, from winning abacus competitions to volunteering at trial advocacies, has taught me that legal education is a collection of these small, lived experiences.

As an editor, I don’t just want to fix grammar; I want to help my peers find their ‘voice’ and tell their stories in a way that is honest, impactful, and uniquely Lawctopean.
