The SSA schedules payments based on the birth date of a beneficiary. Recipients who were born between the 21st and the last day of any month get their payments on the fourth Wednesday of a particular month. For May, it falls on May 27.
Social Security payment: Eligibility
To qualify for Social Security retirement benefits, workers generally need 40 work credits, which means one needs to have about 10 years of work while paying Social Security taxes. The workers’ date of birth must fall between the 21st and the 31st of the month.
Recipients of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), whose birthdays fall in the late-month range, are also eligible.
Spouses or dependent children receiving auxiliary benefits tied to the same schedule.

Beneficiaries who entered the Social Security system after May 1997 are also included in the staggered Wednesday payment system.
However, some recipients will not receive payments today because they were already paid earlier in May. This includes beneficiaries whose claims began before May 1997, people receiving both Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security benefits, and recipients born between the 1st and 20th of the month.

According to the SSA, payments are given based on the birth date of the recipient. They usually arrive on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month.
