#BlueGreenGujarat પહેલ અંતર્ગત, એન્વાયરમેન્ટલિસ્ટ ફાઉન્ડેશન ઑફ ઇન્ડિયા (E.F.I.), ગુજરાત સરકાર અને ગાંધીનગર જિલ્લા વહીવટીતંત્રના સહયોગથી ગાંધીનગરની બહાર આવેલા સરધવ ગામે “સરધવ હાઇડ્રો આર્બો કોમ્પ્લેક્સ” તરીકે વિશાળ પર્યાવરણ પુનઃસ્થાપન અને વૃક્ષારોપણ પ્રકલ્પ વિકસાવવામાં આવી રહ્યો છે. સરકારી માલિકીની 30 એકર જમીન પર ફેલાયેલો આ પ્રકલ્પ 1,00,000 દેશી (સ્થાનિક) વૃક્ષોના વાવેતર દ્વારા એક સમયના સૂકા અને ઉજ્જડ વિસ્તારને હરિયાળા, સ્વનિર્ભર અને આબોહવા-સ્થિતિસ્થાપક પર્યાવરણમાં પરિવર્તિત કરવાનો ઉદ્દેશ ધરાવે છે. વાવેલા રોપાઓના લાંબા ગાળાના સંરક્ષણ અને વિકાસ માટે સમગ્ર વિસ્તારમાં નવી જળાશયોનું નિર્માણ કરવામાં આવ્યું છે, જે ભૂગર્ભ જળના પુનર્ભરણમાં વધારો કરે છે, પાણીની ઉપલબ્ધિ સુનિશ્ચિત કરે છે અને સિંચાઈ માટે વિશ્વસનીય જળસ્રોત પૂરો પાડે છે. આ પહેલને વધુ ટકાઉ બનાવવા માટે અહીં સૌર ઊર્જા આધારિત સિંચાઈ પ્રણાલી પણ સ્થાપિત કરવામાં આવી છે, જે સ્વચ્છ, નવનીકરણીય અને ઊર્જા-કાર્યક્ષમ રીતે રોપાઓને પાણી પહોંચાડે છે અને પરંપરાગત ઊર્જા સ્ત્રોતો પરની નિર્ભરતા ઘટાડે છે. આ તમામ પ્રયાસો સાથે મળીને જૈવ વૈવિધ્યનું પુનઃસ્થાપન, સ્થાનિક જળ સુરક્ષાનું મજબૂતિકરણ અને ગુજરાત માટે વધુ હરિયાળું તથા આબોહવા-સ્થિતિસ્થાપક ભવિષ્ય નિર્માણ કરવાની દિશામાં મહત્વપૂર્ણ યોગદાન આપી રહ્યા છે
Under the #BlueGreenGujarat initiative, the Environmentalist Foundation of India E.F.I, in collaboration with the Government of Gujarat and the Gandhinagar District Administration, is developing the Sardhav Hydro Arbo Complex. A large-scale ecological restoration and afforestation project in Sardhav village, on the outskirts of Gandhinagar. Spanning 30 acres of government-owned land, the initiative aims to establish 100,000 native trees, transforming a once-parched landscape into a resilient, self-sustaining green ecosystem. To support the long-term survival of the plantation, new water bodies have been created across the site, enhancing groundwater recharge, improving water availability, and providing a dependable source of irrigation. Further strengthening the project’s sustainability, a solar-powered irrigation system has been installed, enabling clean, renewable, and energy-efficient watering of the saplings while reducing dependence on conventional power sources. Together, these interventions are creating a climate-resilient landscape that restores biodiversity, strengthens local water security, and contributes to a greener future for Gujarat.
The land parcels identified for this initiative are located around Sardhav village. Over the years,
these government-owned lands had been overtaken by invasive weeds and had become informal dumping grounds for garbage, construction debris, and other solid waste. In collaboration with the Gandhinagar District Administration, we surveyed and identified these degraded landscapes for ecological restoration.
The restoration process began with the systematic removal of invasive vegetation, accumulated waste, and construction debris, followed by the installation of protective fencing to safeguard the sites from human disturbance, cattle grazing, and future encroachments. The land was then prepared for afforestation by enriching the soil with compost and rice husk to improve its fertility, moisture retention, and overall soil health. New ponds were also created across the project area to facilitate groundwater recharge, support local biodiversity, and provide a sustainable source of irrigation for the young saplings. With the support of skilled labour and earthmoving machinery, thousands of plantation pits were excavated across the site. More than ten species of native trees, carefully selected for their ecological suitability to the region, were procured and planted. Each sapling was supported with bamboo stakes to ensure upright growth, stability, and improved survival during the establishment phase.
To ensure the long-term success of the restoration, comprehensive post-plantation maintenance is being carried out. Regular watering, manuring, pruning, de-weeding, replacement planting where required, and periodic monitoring are being undertaken to promote healthy sapling growth and enable the gradual development of a resilient, self-sustaining native forest ecosystem.
