Welcoming the distinguished speaker, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Usha Tandon highlighted Shri Rahul Agarwal’s academic and professional achievements. Success in Law Requires Discipline, Credibility and Resilience
During the interaction, Shri Rahul Agarwal shared candid reflections from his professional journey. He observed that success in the legal profession is not determined by background or privilege, but by perseverance, discipline, and credibility developed through consistent effort.
Recalling his early years in litigation, Shri Agarwal said that despite coming from a family of lawyers, he had to wait nearly six months for his first client. He used the example to underline the importance of patience and resilience for young lawyers entering the profession.
Legal Practice Should Serve Society, Says Shri Rahul Agarwal
Speaking on the broader social role of law, Shri Agarwal said legal practice should not be viewed merely as a path to financial success. Instead, he described law as an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to society and public welfare.
Drawing from his international experiences, including his association with global institutions and visits abroad, he reflected on how these experiences strengthened his commitment to serving within the Indian legal system.
Technology and AI in Legal Education: Benefits and Caution
A key highlight of the discussion was Shri Rahul Agarwal’s perspective on technology and Artificial Intelligence in legal education and legal practice. Comparing earlier methods of legal learning with today’s digital ecosystem, he acknowledged the benefits of technology in improving legal research and accessibility.
However, he cautioned students against excessive dependence on AI tools. He advised them to build strong analytical ability, reading habits, and critical thinking skills. According to him, advocacy ultimately remains rooted in clarity of thought, human understanding, and intellectual depth.
Students Discuss Contemporary Legal and Social Issues
The session became highly interactive as students asked questions on several contemporary themes, including the challenges faced by first-generation lawyers, ethical dilemmas in legal practice, women’s participation in law, same-sex marriage, and the impact of digital culture on society.
