Data shared by the government shows that ₹5,777 crore has been returned across 22.95 lakh claims under the nationwide campaign “आपकी पँजूी, आपका अधिकार – Your Money, Your Right”, conducted between October and December 2025. The initiative involved coordinated outreach across 748 districts, aimed at tracing rightful claimants and simplifying access.
Despite these efforts, the stock of unclaimed funds remains substantial. Public sector banks have transferred ₹60,518 crore to the RBI’s Depositor Education and Awareness (DEA) Fund, while unclaimed insurance amounts stand at ₹8,973.89 crore. In the mutual fund space, unclaimed assets total ₹3,749.34 crore.
To address this, regulators have introduced a range of measures to simplify and speed up claim processes. The RBI has rolled out consolidated directions for claim settlement and an incentive scheme offering 5%–7.5% payouts for successful recovery of unclaimed deposits. Banks have also been asked to conduct periodic drives, publish lists and improve outreach to depositors and nominees.
On the insurance side, IRDAI has mandated collection of nominee details at the proposal stage and directed insurers to proactively reach out to policyholders. SEBI, meanwhile, has simplified transmission norms in mutual funds, including reduced documentation for claims up to ₹5 lakh and faster processing through image-based systems.

Digital platforms have also been central to the effort. RBI’s UDGAM portal, IRDAI’s Bima Bharosa, and SEBI’s MITRA platform allow users to track unclaimed deposits, insurance proceeds and mutual fund investments, respectively. An inter-regulatory working group is now working towards a single integrated portal for seamless access.
The update was shared by Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary in the Rajya Sabha, highlighting a continued regulatory push to improve transparency and ensure that unclaimed financial assets are returned to their rightful owners.
