About NIDM

The National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) was constituted under an Act of Parliament with a vision to play the role of a premier institute for capacity development in India and the region. The efforts in this direction that began with the formation of the National Centre for Disaster Management (NCDM) in 1995.

Gained impetus with its redesignation as the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) for training and capacity development. Under the Disaster Management Act 2005, NIDM has been assigned nodal responsibilities for human resource development, capacity building, training, research, documentation and policy advocacy in the field of disaster management.

Documents required (PDF format):

  • SoP (max. one page) including information about interest in Disaster Risk Reduction, relevant academic/work experience, and proposed area of contribution at NIDM 
  • CV duly signed by HoD (max. two pages)

Eligibility 

  • The programme is open to final-year undergraduate students, postgraduate students (any semester), M.Phil./Ph.D. scholars, and recent graduates from Disaster Management (preferable) and allied disciplines including Development Studies, Social Sciences, Environmental Science, Engineering, Health Studies, Architecture, Media, Policy, and related fields. 
  • Applicants must have secured a minimum of 65% marks (or equivalent grade) in their last qualifying examination. 

Duration

The internship duration ranges from 2 to 4 months (subject to mentor review), with a maximum intake of 15 interns per cycle. 

Stipend

Selected undergraduate interns will receive a stipend of ₹12,000 per month, and postgraduate/M.Phil./Ph.D. interns will receive ₹15,000 per month; no TA/DA or additional allowances are admissible. 

Mode of application

Applications must be submitted exclusively through this Google Form within 30 days of advertisement in March; no prior or late submissions will be accepted. 

Selection

Selection will be based on academic merit, relevance to NIDM’s mandate in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), and institutional requirements, and may include personal interaction. Final selection is subject to approval by the Competent Authority. 

Application deadline

15 April 2026, 5 PM

Place of internship

Internships are primarily on-site (NIDM Delhi and Vijayawada campuses); limited remote work may be permitted after one week of physical joining, subject to mentor approval.
