Nestled in the serene and inspirational setting of the Himalayas, Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, is a premier institution dedicated to excellence in legal education. Established in 2016 by an Act of the State Legislature, the University has rapidly emerged as a dynamic centre for learning, research, and professional development.

About CAIPR

The Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property Rights (CAIPR) was established in 2022. The centre’s sole objective is to create an enabling environment to it undertake research in unexplored domains and to disseminate information by implementing various programs to raise awareness among professionals, scholars, and the general public about Intellectual Property Rights.

About the Competition

The Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla and its Centre For Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property Rights proudly presents and invites submissions for the National Virtual Intellectual Property Rights Essay Writing Competition 2.0, 2026.

The competition aims to foster an educational and rewarding experience for students and other participants, further prolonging the interest and development in the field of Intellectual Property Rights.

    • Meme culture vs copyright law: infringement or cultural evolution?
    • Is intellectual property a natural right or a state-created monopoly?

    • Data is the new oil but who owns it?
    • When machines create art, what happens to the artists?
    • Training Artificial Intelligence on copyrighted data fair use or mass infringement?

Fee

A registration fee of Rs. 250 will be charged from students, PhD & LL.M candidates.

Submission Format

The following format should be strictly followed by all competitors:

  • The article should be an original work which has something new to say.
  • The length of the Article should be between 2000 and 3000 words, in A4 format.
  • The submission should be in MS Word file type.
  • No borders shall be applied. Reference and provide a citation for everything that is borrowed from another source.
  • Citations should follow the latest Bluebook Citation Format. Cite primary sources, not an article from a blog/news source, when relying on a judgment or statute.
  • Use footnotes, not endnotes.
  • Do not hyperlink to references.
  • We reserve exclusive rights to publication. Wait 4 weeks after submission before checking the status of your submission.
  • Font Size -12 ( Body) and 14 ( Headings)
  • Font- Times New Roman

  • 1st Place: ₹7000
  • 2nd Place: ₹5000
  • 3rd Place: ₹3000

Important dates

  • Deadline: May 25
  • The announcement of winners shall be done on 7 June, 2026
