National Seminar on ‘Gender Justice’ by Tezpur University, Assam

About the National Seminar

The National Seminar is organized on the theme ‘Gender Justice and Social Transformation’. Gender justice is about dismantling structural inequalities embedded within social, economic, cultural, and legal systems. The concept of gender justice has often been limited to women-centric welfare approaches.

It is strongly related to the concept of social transformation. It requires a shift from formal equality to substantive justice. Constitutional guarantees of equality, dignity, and non-discrimination provide a normative foundation for this transformation, yet their realisation remains uneven.

In the contemporary world, gender justice is also shaped by rapid technological, environmental, and economic changes. Digital spaces have created new opportunities and have simultaneously enabled different forms of gender-based violence.

Similarly, climate change, environmental degradation, and displacement disproportionately affect women, indigenous communities, and gender minorities. It has become impossible to separate gender justice from environmental and social justice.

This national seminar seeks to create a critical interdisciplinary platform to examine gender justice as a transformative force. It aims to deepen understanding, encourage dialogue, and contribute to knowledge that supports inclusive and sustainable social transformation.
