The Majestic Layout Pond, located between the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) and the Buckingham Canal, is a long and narrow water body surrounded by rapidly developing residential layouts. As part of a larger network of interconnected wetlands and water bodies in the region, it contributes significantly to stormwater management, groundwater recharge, local biodiversity, and overall environmental resilience. Majestic Layout Pond faced multiple challenges, including dense weed overgrowth requiring deweeding, heavy silt accumulation necessitating desilting, and weakened bunds that increased the risk of erosion and structural failure. These issues collectively reduced the pond’s capacity, stability, and overall ecological health.
With support from the Greater Chennai Corporation, Rotary Club of Madras and Sundaram Finance,
E.F.I took on the task of restoring Majestic Layout Pond back to its natural state.
