Star England footballer Jude Bellingham failed to control his emotions and broke into a heated altercation with Argentina players after his team’s defeat in the second semifinal of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Bellingham’s England faced defending champions Argentina for a place in the final on Wednesday (July 15), but despite taking a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute of the fixture played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the Three Lions failed to protect their advantage and suffered a heartbreaking 1-2 defeat.
The defeat in Atlanta crushed England’s dreams of qualifying for only their second-ever FIFA World Cup final.
Shortly after the final whistle at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Bellingham appeared to lose his cool and got involved in a confrontation with an Argentina player Valetine Barco, who had come from the bench to celebrate with the rest of his teammates.
In a video going viral on the internet, Bellingham can be seen shaking hands with Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez before charging towards Valetine Barco in an aggressive manner and appearing to tap him on the head from behind.
The Argentine player then reacted angrily and pushed Bellingham before another Argentina player stepped in to separate the two. However, by that time, both players had already become engaged in a heated verbal exchange.
As the matter escalated, another Argentina player, Nicolás Otamendi, intervened and pushed Bellingham before more players from both teams joined the confrontation and pulled the England midfielder away.

England had high expectations from Bellingham in the semifinal against Argentina, but the 23-year-old midfielder, who has six goals and two assists to his name in this year’s FIFA World Cup, failed to score for the third knockout match in a row.
Although England’s dream of winning the World Cup has come to an end following the defeat against Argentina, they will play one more match in this year’s tournament before returning home.
In the third-place playoff match of the FIFA World Cup 2026, England will face France at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens on July 18.
France had suffered a 0-2 defeat against Spain in the first semifinal of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Tuesday (July 14) at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
