Internship Experience @ Mukkera Sahithi Sri Kavya & Associates

Mukkera Sahithi Sri Kavya & Associates, Inner Ring Road, Road No. 1, Karmanghat, Hyderabad, Telangana.

April 2025

I went through my father’s network. The senior counsel is practising at the Telangana High Court.

The first day in court felt like a blank, which made me realise that I did not know anything about it. Even though I am a confident student in college, appearing before experienced advocates and judges made me feel small and inexperienced.

My counsel assigned me work mainly to observe the courts and to inform her when our item reaches the concerned courts, translation of documents such as FIRs and case diaries, and filing of court slips, vakalaths, writ petitions, CRLPs, CRLAs, and civil petitions.

These tasks were done by me in court, and if necessary, I would go to the office on weekends for documentation and drafting.

The work environment felt quite clumsy for me in the beginning, but now I have taken ownership of the work, and it has become easier to understand new things. Learning from strangers in the court library was quite advantageous for me.

In court halls, it is always tense, and everyone is very busy with their work, which helped me learn and accept the court environment during my internship. My senior counsel and junior advocates are friendly and explain things briefly whenever they assign any tasks, as I was new to their team.

The good thing about the internship is that it killed my inner fear. Previously, many of us, including me, believed that going to court is only for advocates and that their experience matters, but what I learned was that, as students, we can learn many things that will be helpful for our individual practice.

This reduces fear. I would even suggest new students to go to courts even before graduation, as this is one of the best opportunities and experiences we can have as interns and students. I am glad I got this opportunity.

We do not have much personal time during this period because the work is hectic and sometimes exhausts us physically and mentally. The workload does not match the stipend we receive.

My counsel paid me ₹2,000, which is not sufficient for the work I do here; however, as an intern, I need to focus more on gaining knowledge rather than the stipend I receive. This enthusiasm made me learn new things out there.

Rs. 2000/-

I go to court daily by public transportation, which takes around 2 hours from home to court and 2 hours in the evening from court to home. I do not require accommodation because I can commute up and down, and that is the best option for me right now.

Every student should get the experience of court halls before graduation. This will build our confidence and improve knowledge as well.
