Duration of Internship
December 2025
How did you apply?
As it was my first internship, I sought my father’s help in securing it. I interned under the advocate representing my father in his legal case.
First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, and First Impression
I still remember my first day of the internship. My father accompanied me to the office, and the most memorable part of the day was visiting the District Court.
I also had the opportunity to interact with both senior and junior advocates in the office. Since it was my first internship and my first semester, I was unsure whether I would learn much from the experience.
Main Tasks
My primary responsibilities during the internship included attending the assigned courts, observing the proceedings, and recording the hearing dates of the cases. In addition, I drafted letters addressed to the court and assisted with the filing of legal documents.
Work Environment
The office environment was professional and disciplined, providing me with the opportunity to observe court proceedings, client meetings, and legal drafting. Initially, the court environment felt overwhelming, but as the days passed, I became more confident as I began to understand the practical aspects of the law.
The internship helped improve my observational skills and further strengthened my interest in the field of law.
Good Things about the Internship
One of the most valuable aspects of my internship was the exposure I gained during my very first semester. Attending the District Court every day and observing how court proceedings were conducted gave me a realistic understanding of the legal profession.
I believe that such practical exposure is one of the best ways for anyone to develop a better understanding of the law.
Bad Things about the Internship
One limitation of this internship was that I was in my first semester of law school and had very limited legal knowledge. At that point, I had only completed the study of the Law of Torts and was unfamiliar with most other areas of law.
As a result, I found it difficult to fully understand many of the proceedings and legal discussions, which affected my overall learning experience. I believe that if I had possessed a stronger foundation in law, I would have been able to understand the concepts more effectively and gain much more from the internship.
Monthly Stipend
It was an unpaid internship.
Details about the accommodation, commuting to the office
My office was only 15 minutes away from my home, so my father would drop me off and pick me up after my internship each day. Commuting was not a challenge for me. Additionally, since the office was located directly opposite the District Court, I could easily visit the court whenever required.
Anything else you want to share?
One piece of advice I would give to future interns is to interact with the people around them, as that is one of the best ways to learn.
The legal profession is built on communication, networking, and professional relationships, and building meaningful connections can greatly enhance both learning and future opportunities.
