District Legal Services Authority, Patiala, Punjab

    January 2026

I applied by visiting the centre offline.

On the first day of my internship at the District Legal Services Authority Patiala, I completed basic formalities such as document submission and registration.

The office had a well-organized infrastructure with designated spaces for legal aid work and client interaction. My first impression was positive, as the environment was professional, and the staff was cooperative.

During my internship at the District Legal Services Authority, Patiala, I was involved in analysing real client issues and understanding how legal aid is implemented at the ground level. I assisted in screening applications to identify eligibility for free legal aid and observed how authorities prioritise urgent matters.

I also interacted with case files to understand procedural aspects and the practical challenges faced by litigants. Additionally, I attended proceedings related to dispute resolution, which gave me insight into efficient case settlement outside traditional courts.

These tasks helped me bridge the gap between theoretical legal knowledge and its real-world application, especially in the context of access to justice.

The work environment at the District Legal Services Authority, Patiala, was professional, structured, and conducive to learning. The office maintained a disciplined yet approachable atmosphere, where legal officers and staff were supportive and open to guiding interns.

There was a clear division of responsibilities, ensuring efficient handling of legal aid matters and client interactions. Despite dealing with serious and sensitive cases, the environment remained respectful and client-focused

One of the most valuable aspects of my internship at the District Legal Services Authority, Patiala, was the practical exposure to the functioning of legal aid mechanisms. I gained firsthand insight into how justice is made accessible to economically weaker sections, which deepened my understanding of social justice.

The opportunity to observe real cases and interact with legal professionals enhanced my procedural knowledge and professional skills. Additionally, the supportive environment and guidance provided by the staff made the learning process more effective.

Overall, the internship offered a meaningful blend of practical experience and social impact, making it a highly enriching experience.

At times, the work felt more observational, with limited opportunities to actively participate. The pace of work could also be slow on certain days, which affected consistency in learning.

However, I understand that this is largely due to the sensitive nature of cases and the need to follow proper procedures. Overall, these aspects did not take away from the value of the experience but gave me a realistic understanding of how legal institutions function.

    No, Stipend.

The internship at the District Legal Services Authority, Patiala, was conveniently located near my residence, which made commuting easy and time-efficient. I did not require any separate accommodation, as I was able to travel to the office comfortably on a daily basis.

Apart from the professional experience, this internship also gave me a chance to slow down and reflect. After work, I would usually spend time unwinding, which helped me maintain a good balance. One of the key lessons I learned was the importance of patience and empathy while dealing with real people and their legal issues.

It made me realise that law is not just about rules, but about understanding people’s situations and delivering practical solutions. Overall, the experience helped me grow both professionally and personally.
