The academic culture at GITAM School of Law is structured, disciplined, and focused on both theoretical learning and practical exposure. The college maintains a professional academic environment that encourages regular attendance, classroom participation, and continuous assessment through assignments, presentations, and internal evaluations.
Faculty Strength & Quality: The law school has a good number of faculty members, many of whom hold postgraduate degrees and PhDs in their respective specializations. Several faculty members have practical exposure to legal research, drafting, moot courts, and advocacy-related work.
Overall, the quality of faculty is good, with many professors being approachable, supportive, and willing to guide students beyond classroom teaching, especially for moots, projects, internships, and research papers.
That said, as with most institutions, teaching quality may vary slightly from faculty to faculty, but the overall academic standard remains consistent.
Teaching Methodology & Academic Culture: Teaching is a mix of lectures, case-law discussions, presentations, group discussions, and internal assessments. Students are encouraged to engage actively in classes, which helps build analytical and communication skills.
The academic culture is relatively serious and exam-oriented, with an emphasis on syllabus completion, internal marks, and practical components.
Attendance & Discipline: Attendance is strictly monitored. Students are generally required to maintain around 75% attendance to be eligible for semester examinations.
Attendance policies are enforced, and a shortage of attendance can lead to academic consequences. This ensures regular classroom engagement but may feel rigid to some students.
Class Timings & Workload: Class timings usually run from morning (around 8 or 9 AM) to late afternoon (around 3 or 4 PM). On some days, the schedule can be hectic, especially during internal assessments, moot court preparations, or project submissions.
However, this structured timetable helps students stay academically engaged and disciplined.
Student–Faculty Interaction: Interaction between students and faculty is generally positive. Faculty members are accessible during college hours and often guide students on academic doubts, career paths, internships, and higher studies.
Mentorship during moots, seminars, and legal research activities adds value to the learning experience.

The peer quality at GITAM School of Law is quite diverse, with students coming from different states, educational backgrounds, and socio-economic settings. A good number of students are academically motivated and actively participate in moot courts, debates, seminars, legal writing, internships, and student committees.
Many peers are focused on building strong CVs and are supportive when it comes to group projects, discussions, and collaborative learning. This encourages healthy competition and personal growth.
At the same time, there is a mix of seriousness among students. While some peers are highly driven and career-oriented, others are more focused on campus life and extracurricular activities.
However, this balance contributes to a lively campus culture and does not negatively affect academic opportunities for motivated students.
Overall, the peer environment is friendly, cooperative, and competitive in a positive way, allowing students to learn from each other both academically and socially.

GITAM School of Law has a very active co-curricular and extra-curricular culture, with plenty of opportunities for students to explore their interests beyond academics. The university offers multiple clubs, committees, and platforms that help students develop legal, leadership, and creative skills.
There are various student clubs and societies such as Kalakriti (cultural club), Model United Nations (MUN) Club, GITAM Moot Court & Advocacy Committee, and other departmental and university-level clubs. These clubs regularly organize events, workshops, and competitions that encourage student participation and exposure.
On the co-curricular side, students actively take part in moot court competitions, debate competitions, client counselling competitions, mock parliamentary debates, legal quizzes, and judgment writing exercises. These activities play a major role in improving advocacy skills, legal research, drafting, and public speaking.
In terms of extra-curricular activities, GITAM offers a vibrant campus life with several cultural and sports events throughout the year. Large university-level fests like SHORE bring together students from different universities and backgrounds.
The campus also hosts inter-university and intra-university sports tournaments, cultural nights, music, dance, drama, and other recreational events, ensuring a balanced and enjoyable college life.

Rooms & Cleanliness: Hostel rooms are generally clean and well-maintained, with regular housekeeping services. Rooms are available in single, double, and multiple-sharing options, depending on availability and fee structure. Common areas, washrooms, and corridors are cleaned regularly, maintaining a decent level of hygiene.
Facilities & Amenities: Hostels are equipped with essential facilities such as Wi-Fi connectivity, study areas, common rooms, laundry facilities, RO drinking water, power backup, and 24/7 security. The mess provides regular meals with decent quality and hygiene, and although food preferences may vary, the overall mess service is satisfactory.
Safety & Discipline: Hostel security is taken seriously, with wardens, security staff, CCTV surveillance, and entry-exit rules in place. Hostel timings and discipline are strictly followed, which ensures safety but may feel restrictive to some students.
Overall Experience: While hostel fees are on the higher side, the facilities, cleanliness, safety, and campus environment justify the cost. Hostel life also promotes social interaction and a sense of community among students.

The college offers strong exposure to co-curricular and extra-curricular activities such as moot courts, debates, Model United Nations, legal aid activities, cultural clubs, and university-level fests like SHORE. These platforms help students develop confidence, leadership, advocacy, and public speaking skills.
The faculty support and structured academic system are also positives. Many professors are approachable and guide students in academics, research, internships, and competitions. The disciplined academic culture and regular assessments help students stay focused and consistent.
Finally, the green and well-maintained campus, hostel facilities, sports infrastructure, and active campus life make college life enjoyable while still being academically productive.
In your opinion, what are bad things about your college?
Some of the drawbacks of my college include strict attendance requirements and long academic hours, which can feel exhausting at times. The fee structure and hostel charges are on the higher side, which may not be affordable for everyone.
Additionally, while most facilities are good, administrative processes can sometimes be slow, and there may be variations in teaching quality across faculty.
