Flying e-Taxis in India to Take-off by 2026
India is set to witness a technological revolution in the field of transportation as e-Taxis is expected to become a reality soon. The parent company of IndiGo, InterGlobe Enterprises, has teamed up with Archer Aviation, a US-based startup, to introduce and operate an all-electric air taxi service in India by 2026.
This ambitious project aims to address the problem of traffic congestion by providing an innovative solution that could revolutionize the way people travel. According to the plan, within the next three years, InterGlobe Enterprises will launch an exciting e-Taxis service that will cater to the needs of commuters, business travelers, and tourists alike, making travel faster and more convenient than ever before. This venture is expected to have a significant impact on the transportation sector in the country and pave the way for a more sustainable and eco-friendly mode of transport.
“India is one of, if not the largest opportunity for eVTOL aircraft utilization in the world, as it is home to the world’s largest population of over 1.4 billion people and its largest cities face some of the greatest congestion challenges in the world,” voiced Archer CEO and founder Adam Goldstein. “Archer’s all-electric Midnight aircraft is designed to provide a revolutionary transportation solution that can help address these congestion issues.”
InterGlobe Enterprises, one of India’s largest travel conglomerates, has announced plans to expand its affordable transportation portfolio through a new partnership. The company is already a benefactor of IndiGo, India’s largest airline, and is now looking to diversify its transportation services by partnering with a new company.
Through this partnership, InterGlobe Enterprises hopes to leverage its expertise in the travel and transportation sector to address the transportation issues in the world’s most populous country. An e-air-taxi service will offer routes in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, aiming to provide quick and comfortable transportation to the people of India. The company aims to complete a 17-mile trip in Delhi in just 7 minutes, which is a significant improvement compared to the 60 to 90 minutes travel time taken by a car, which will considerably reduce travel time for commuters in busy cities.
The new mode of urban transportation will introduce low-noise electric air taxis. The service aims to provide a cost-competitive alternative to ground transportation. The partnership behind this initiative plans to procure as many as 200 Archer “Midnight” aircraft, capable of carrying four passengers and a pilot and can fly up to 100 miles.
InterGlobe Enterprises also plans to use the e-aircraft for cargo, logistics, medical, emergency, and charter services, making it a versatile transportation solution. With this new partnership, the company aims to meet the growing demand for affordable and sustainable transportation options in India, which is expected to benefit both the environment and the economy.
However, the partnership is subject to regulatory clearances from the relevant authorities, and how soon it will be operational remains to be seen. Nonetheless, InterGlobe Enterprises’ bold move is a testament to its commitment to expanding its footprint in the transportation industry and enhancing its value proposition to customers.
