Eligibility

  • Advocates/Pleaders: Minimum 7 years continuous practice and declaration of appearance in at least 24 cases per year in the last 3 years.
  • Judicial Officers: Those with 7+ years of practice before joining service are eligible.
  • Combined Experience: Advocates + Judicial Service totaling 7+ years also eligible.
  • Age Limit: 35–50 years as on date of application.
  • Prosecution Officers/Assistant Prosecution Officers: Treated as Advocates (per SC judgment in Deepak Agarwal v. Keshav Kaushik, 2013).

Selection Process

Screening Test (if held):

  • 300 marks, 100 questions (Law, English, General & Computer Knowledge).
  • Negative marking: -1 for each wrong answer.
  • Law subjects include Constitution, CPC, Limitation Act, BNSS 2023, BNS 2023, Contract Act, TPA, Specific Relief, Arbitration Act, Personal Laws, etc.

Written Test:

  • Papers on major laws (Constitution, CPC, BNSS, BNS, Contract, TPA, Family Courts Act, Prevention of Corruption Act, SC/ST Act, etc.).
  • Must secure 45% in each paper.

Viva-Voce:

  • Ratio of marks: 80% (written) + 20% (interview).
  • Minimum qualifying: 30% in interview, 50% aggregate overall.
  • Relaxation of 5% for reserved categories, women, and OH candidates.

Required Documents

  • Proof of residence (for reservation claims).
  • Caste/Non-Creamy Layer/EWS certificates (as applicable).
  • Enrolment certificate from Bar Council.
  • Certificate of practice & character (Annexure I/II/III).
  • Income declaration for last 3 years.
  • Declaration of appearance in 24 cases/year (where applicable).
  • Educational certificates, FIR/charge-sheet/judgment copies (if any).
  • No Objection Certificate (for employed candidates).

Fee

  • ₹1500 (General)
  • ₹750 (SC/ST/OH candidates of Bihar)

Salary

Pay Scale: ₹1,44,840 – ₹1,94,660 (Level J-5)
