Why it can be difficult for India to Win the ODI World Cup – Part Two
India has not learned anything from their previous mistakes and that could be the reason for their downfall.
While you may feel I am being a bit negative, it is not entirely true. I am worried about the negative mindset. Just days ago, R. Ashwin appeared on his YouTube channel to lecture fans and audiences about how it is difficult to win every match. We all know that! And then he went on to compare how fans supported when they tried something new. Well, if we did not support the Indian Cricket Team, why is cricket a religion in this country?
Anyway, India will be playing their first match against Australia, and like most Indians, I will expect them to win. But somewhere R. Ashwin’s voice is ringing in my head: “Winning a World Cup is not easy guys.” Well there you go, India, it seems to have given up even before they played their first match.
You walk into that stadium to win and not to lose!
Other countries are preparing and finding a new style of playing ODI. England is playing bazz ball cricket. They will enter India with bazz ball cricket in mind. What is bazz ball cricket? It is a very aggressive way of playing cricket, especially in the middle overs, where batsmen nudge the ball and rely on singles and doubles. India should expect an aggressive England in the middle overs! Ashwin and a few others believe it is not our style of playing. It has worked for them and not for us! Well, English can call what they want but that style really emerged here! Remember Sachin Tendulkar, Virendra Sehwag and Dada. They blew caution to the wind and showed how middleovers could be capitalized.
My point is simple, we have been our best when we freely express ourselves. True we will lose our way at times, but aggression is what are batting and bowling should be.
However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Not everything is lost. Rohit Sharma, in his latest interview, said that the ODI World Cup does not come on a platter and every player must work hard for it.
Rohit said:
“You don’t get World Cups on a platter, you have to really work hard and that is what we have been doing all these years from 2011 till now we all are fighting for it.”
I will only end by saying the following:
The hungrier you are, the harder you practice. And the harder you practice, the better the chances of winning. So go to that cricket field tigers in blue with victory in your mind!
