About the Organisation
Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU), Jabalpur was established in 2018 by the Madhya Pradesh Dharmashastra National Law University Act, 2018, with the objective of advancing legal education and achieving excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate legal studies.
The Centre for Studies in Tribal and Indigenous Communities (CSTIC), established in 2024 under DNLU, focuses on researching tribal history, culture, and traditional knowledge, and on assessing the impact of government schemes on tribal welfare. The conference is being organized in collaboration with the Tribal Research and Development Institute (TRDI), Bhopal.

About Call for Papers
CSTIC, DNLU Jabalpur, in collaboration with TRDI, Bhopal, is organizing a Two Days National Conference on Tribal Custom, Law, Rights, and Reforms on 19th-20th September, 2026. The conference aims to examine the dynamic relationship between customary practices, constitutional safeguards, and statutory frameworks governing tribal communities, providing a collaborative platform for academicians, researchers, and policymakers to deliberate on legal reforms, cultural preservation, and inclusive governance.
Accepted papers will be published in a special issue of The Vantage: A Journal of Law and Social Sciences, the official journal of DNLU, Jabalpur.
Eligibility
The call for papers is open to academicians, research scholars, practitioners, and students from law and allied social science disciplines.
Theme
The conference is organized under three broad themes:
- Asmita: Recognition of Tribal Medicinal Knowledge & Issues of Intellectual Property Rights
- Astitwa: Tribal Conversion and Delisting: Legal Consequences & Comparative Perspectives; Civil Law: Impact, Gaps and Shortcomings
- Vikas: PESA Act and Related Statutory Regimes; Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006
Submission Categories
Papers may be submitted by single authors or co-authors (maximum two authors per paper) under any of the sub-themes listed in the brochure.

Submission Guidelines
Authors must strictly comply with the prescribed formatting instructions available on the manuscript guidelines page. Deviations may result in disqualification. The editorial board reserves the right to make necessary editorial changes for clarity, consistency, and style. Registration must be completed only after confirmation of abstract submission.
Registration Fee Students: ₹500 | Scholars: ₹700 | Academicians: ₹1,000
Co-authors must pay half the fee applicable to their respective category. The registration fee is non-refundable.

Submission Procedure
Abstracts and full papers are to be submitted as per the manuscript guidelines linked above. Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection after the review process.
