Bharat Gears Ltd on Friday said the appeal filed by its Chairman and Managing Director, Surinder Paul Kanwar, against the revocation of his passport has been dismissed by the Ministry of External Affairs, with the executive now planning to challenge the order through appropriate legal proceedings.
In a regulatory filing, the auto components maker said Kanwar’s appeal, filed on April 15, 2026 under Section 11 of the Passports Act, 1967, was rejected through an order dated July 23, 2026 by the Joint Secretary (PSP) & Chief Passport Officer, Ministry of External Affairs. The order was received by him on July 29.
According to the company, Kanwar has contended that the appeal was disposed of without being given an opportunity to present his case, which he believes is contrary to the proviso to Section 11(5) of the Passports Act, 1967 that mandates a reasonable opportunity of hearing before disposal of an appeal.
The company said Kanwar is in the process of filing a rectification, clarificatory or other appropriate application against the order.
Bharat Gears added that its CMD has assured the company that he remains mindful of his fiduciary responsibilities and will continue to keep the board informed of all material developments, while ensuring statutory authorities are notified in a fair and transparent manner.
The company said it will disclose any further material developments in the matter in accordance with applicable laws and SEBI’s listing regulations.
