Union Minister Amit Shah criticized the Congress government in Karnataka for the alleged inaction regarding the lewd clips supposedly exhibiting the sexual assault by NDA candidate Prajwal Revanna, who is the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda.

During a press briefing today, Mr Shah reiterated the BJP’s unwavering support towards the ‘matrushakti’ (mothers and women) of the nation. He pointed out the failure of the Congress government in taking any necessary measures in this case so far.

“The BJP maintains a clear stance of standing by the women of the country. Congress must be held accountable for their lack of action in this matter since they are the ruling party in the state. We believe it is the responsibility of the state government to address this issue as it pertains to law and order,” he expressed.

Furthermore, the Union Minister emphasized the importance of conducting a thorough investigation into the situation. He condemned the incident and urged the Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, to question their Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister for the delayed response.

Prajwal, who currently serves as an MP from Karnataka’s Hassan constituency, is involved in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections but has distanced the JD(S) party from the controversy. He dismissed the allegations against him as “doctored” in a police report.

The Karnataka police have registered a case against him for sexual harassment and stalking, prompting the state to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine the matter. Karnataka’s Home Minister G Parameshwara stated that the SIT would request Prajwal to return to India for questioning as part of the investigation.

Additionally, he urged Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, to hold their Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister accountable. The ongoing Lok Sabha polls have been overshadowed by this scandal, with Prajwal Revanna denying the allegations and a police complaint filed against him. The Karnataka government has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the matter, with plans to summon Revanna back to India for questioning.
