How did you apply?
Through the website of the organization, I wrote an email application for the internship.
First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, and First Impression
On the first day, I was introduced to the staff, and since I was the first law student interning there, they were not very sure about what work to assign me. The office itself was actually a shop, where all the handmade products were displayed and sold.
My first impression was that it was very different from a usual internship, especially since I had expected more legal-related work, but the organisation was clearly genuine in its work of supporting disabled people and those affected by leprosy through trading.
Main Tasks
In the beginning, my work was mostly related to the products, like photo shooting and packing, which I honestly found unrelated to my field. Later, they started assigning me better tasks like drafting emails, writing reports, and doing research work.
One day, I was also asked to do a bit of career counselling for the son of one of the artisans. So, the tasks kept changing, and even though it wasn’t law-related, I still managed to learn something from it.
Work Environment
The work environment was simple and friendly. The staff was small but cooperative, and they were kind to me throughout. Because this was their first time hosting a law student, they didn’t have a set plan for me, so at first the work felt confusing.
But as time passed, they did try to involve me in other tasks, and I could see that they valued my help. It wasn’t a formal or strict office space, more open and supportive.
Good Things about the Internship
The good part about this internship was that I got to see how an NGO works in real life. Their focus was on giving livelihood to disabled people and people affected by leprosy by helping them trade their handmade products. Another good thing was the people—the staff was supportive and always approachable.
Later, I received tasks like writing reports, drafting emails, and researching EUDR regulations, which provided me with practical exposure. I was also once asked to talk to the son of an artisan and guide him in his career, which was a new experience for me.
