The pilot phase of the scheme was completed in nine states, following which Svamitva was launched nationally by the PM on Panchayati Raj Day—April 24, 2021.
The rural areas of India did not have a proper scheme in place that could map the inhabited areas of rural India. With the launch of the Svamitva scheme, people residing in rural areas can get the benefit of ownership of properties.
How does Svamitva Yojna work?
One of the main highlights of the scheme is that it will use drones to map village properties. Following the accurate mapping, the State Government will create property cards for the villagers. The villagers receive the property cards after the card has been recorded in the Land Revenue Records Department.
The benefits of the Svamitva Yojna
In addition to providing ownership rights to the villagers, the scheme will enable villagers to avail of loans using their property cards. The scheme is expected to develop rural areas through marking and demarking properties in the rural areas.
An article published on Digit mentions the following:
“SVAMITVA Yojana ensures robust development of rural areas through mapping and demarcation of village properties. This scheme will help the government to plan infrastructure programs in rural areas.”
“Due to drone technology and satellite mapping usage, the chances of errors in drawing property boundaries also come down,” the article further reads.
What are the expected outcomes of the scheme?
After the disbursal of the property cards, property owners can leverage their properties during the time of need.
The Digit article mentions:
“…Further, this scheme will ease property tax determining tasks, which authorities will use to ensure improved civic amenities.
SVAMITVA Yojana leads India one step ahead in fulfilling the Prime Minister’s dream of digitising the nation. Through this scheme, rural people can finally get rightful ownership and utilise their property as per their requirements.”
The present government is working towards building a better India where the rural population could get all the benefits of the modern world.
