    Dr. Rajendra Prasad National Law University (RPNLU), Prayagraj, is organising the second edition of its International Debate Competition through the University’s Debate and Discussion Club.

    Under the leadership of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Sr. Prof. (Dr.) Usha Tandon, the Debate and Discussion Club has emerged as an active academic platform promoting critical thinking, public speaking and informed discussions among students.

    Through regular debates, workshops and competitions, the Club encourages students to develop research and advocacy skills beyond the classroom.

    About the International Debate Competition

    The Debate and Discussion Club of RPNLU Prayagraj has announced the 2nd International Debate Competition 2026, scheduled to be held on September 26, 2026.

    The competition is envisioned as a global academic platform that brings together aspiring legal professionals from universities in India and abroad to engage in meaningful dialogue on issues of international importance.

    By inviting participation from diverse legal systems and cultural backgrounds, the competition seeks to promote cross-border academic collaboration, intellectual exchange and comparative legal understanding.

    Previous Edition

    The second edition builds upon the success of the first International Debate Competition held in 2025, which brought together 28 teams from leading law schools across India and abroad.

    Encouraged by the response received during the first edition, the University is organising the second edition to provide students with another opportunity to engage in meaningful debate on important issues of international law and global affairs.

    Motion for the Preliminary Round

    “Economic Sanctions Have Become Instruments of Geopolitical Coercion Rather Than Lawful Measures Under International Law.”

    Participants will debate the legal, political and ethical dimensions of economic sanctions and their growing role in international relations.

    Competition Format

    The competition will be conducted in two rounds:

    • Preliminary Round
    • Final Round featuring the top four teams

    The debate will be conducted in English.

    Eligibility

    The competition is open to undergraduate law students from universities and institutions in India and abroad.

    Team Composition

    Each university or institution may send one team comprising two speakers:

    • One speaker must speak in favour of the motion.
    • The other speaker must speak against the motion.

    Prizes

    The competition offers a total prize pool of ₹75,000, distributed as follows:

    • Winning Team: ₹50,000
    • Runner-Up Team: ₹20,000
    • Best Speaker: ₹5,000

    Registration Fee

    • Indian Participants: ₹1,000 per team
    • International Participants: USD 20 per team

    • Opening of Registrations: July 11, 2026
    • Last Date to Register: August 25, 2026
    • Publication of List of Registered Teams: August 30, 2026
    • Date of Competition: September 26, 2026
