Mumbai: A helpline operated at the Mumbai International Airport received two consecutive phone calls from a woman, early on Sunday, asking them to cancel a Mumbai-Delhi flight as “a major problem was going to occur.” The Sahar Police later registered an FIR. The call appeared to be a hoax, and the police are probing further.
The first call was received around 12.41am on Sunday. The caller identified herself as Zoya. She told the helpline operator to cancel a Mumbai-Delhi flight which was scheduled to depart at 12.45am. The operator asked her for the flight number and the name of the airline, but the caller did not have it. She said that a major problem was going to occur, without divulging any details.
A few minutes later, at 12.45am, Zoya called back on the helpline. She was connected to a different operator. Zoya asked whether the flight was cancelled as she was concerned about the safety of passengers. She once again asked the operator to cancel the flight for 24 hours for a reason that she wouldn’t divulge. She then disconnected the line.
The Sahar Police was informed, and the call was traced to a location within the police station’s jurisdiction at Andheri East. But the caller couldn’t be traced.
