Erratic weather, resource crunch, and lower productivity are some serious issues faced by the agriculture sector. Among these, the availability of water remains the prime problem. With the Israeli micro-irrigation system, the agriculture sector may expect a boom.
The agricultural sector withdraws almost 85 percent of fresh water, which is above the global average. While the sector receives an overwhelming amount of fresh water, the sector still fails to meet the water requirement. The India-Israel Agriculture Project, Centre of Excellence is working with several Indian states to adopt new technologies, such as micro irrigation systems, to assist farmers to increase productivity.
An article published on the Economic Times mentions the following:
“The Central & state government recognised the importance of drip technology way back in 2003, with the formation of ‘Task Force on Micro Irrigation’. Government has been extending subsidy through bodies like National Mission on Micro Irrigation (NMMI) to encourage farmers to take up drip irrigation in a big way. Now, under the central government’s new initiative to increase farm productivity, the micro irrigation sector has got the most needed fillip.”
Israel has paved the path for optimizing the use of water in general and agriculture in particular.” India has realized the importance of Israel’s ingenuity and innovation, which is why PM Modi has openly embraced the friendly nation’s technology. Micro irrigation can completely alter the Indian agriculture sector.
The Economic Times article mentions:
“The collaboration with Israeli agricultural technologies helped in bringing the most advanced innovations to the India farmers at affordable prices by adopting the concept of Technology transfers leading to “Make in India” combined with extension support by Agronomists from Israel.”
