Delhi is facing a double crisis—severe water shortage in some areas and filthy, sewage-contaminated water in others. As frustration mounts, women in Timarpur, led by AAP Delhi State Women’s Wing President Sarika Chaudhary, held a Matka Phod demonstration against the BJP’s so called four-engine government, demanding clean and adequate water. The demonstration highlighted how, unlike during the Arvind Kejriwal government, Delhiites today are battling both scarcity and sickness caused by the toxic water being supplied.
During the Matka Phod demonstration, AAP Women’s Wing Delhi State President Sarika Chaudhary said, “Under Rekha Gupta’s government, extremely dirty water is being supplied. Never before has such filthy water come. This water is poisonous. Even if someone filters it and drinks it, they will still fall ill. One can’t even touch this water. Its stench is so strong that no one can stand near it.”
She emphasised that the BJP government is supplying very dirty water. “Are people supposed to live or die? Where should they go? How can such filthy water be supplied? It seems like it has been filled directly from the drain. Every house is receiving dirty water. During Arvind Kejriwal’s time, clean water was supplied.”
Meanwhile, women participating in the Matka Phod demonstration said, “In Malka Ganj, Timarpur Assembly constituency, the water situation is very bad. The water from the tank is useless. Drinking it can make people sick. Garbage is lying on the streets. People are troubled for water. People remember the AAP government and Arvind Kejriwal. Rekha Gupta’s 100-day government has been very poor. It is not fulfilling people’s needs. People are saying, we want Arvind Kejriwal’s government.”
The women said, “The water is so dirty that it’s not fit for drinking. Where will people get water from? People are falling ill. Drinking this dirty water is causing stomach infections. Doctors are advising treatment. People are distressed. Since Rekha Gupta’s government came, the situation has worsened.”
They added, “Arvind Kejriwal was very good. He used to be ready even at midnight. He stood by us. Our children used to study in government school. Now, the condition of government schools is very poor. If you go to the dispensary to get medicine, there’s pushing and shoving. The dispensary has even been shut down.”
The women said, “During the elections, BJP went door to door asking for votes. But in these three months, they haven’t asked anyone whether water is being supplied properly, whether electricity is fine, whether Malka Ganj’s roads have been built. Nothing has happened. Before the elections, BJP had promised to give Rs 2,500 to women. Not a single rupee has been received. The Aam Aadmi Party government was a million times better than the BJP. The water was clean. The schools were good. Work used to be done in the localities.”
Women further added, “No one comes home to ask how people are living. They are increasing the price of milk. What will the poor eat? Ration is not being given. They are strangling the poor. We do not want such a government. Dirty water is being supplied. People will fall sick. Neither the MLA nor the Municipal Councillor is doing any work.”
