Engineering student kills mother for not letting him play online games in Vizag

VISAKHAPATNAM: In a shocking incident, a third-year engineering student murdered his mother by stabbing her for not letting him play online games on laptop on Thursday (Jan 30).
The victim woman Alka Singh (47) was found dead in a pool of blood in the residential quarters of Indian Coast Guard (ICG) under Malkapuram police station limits in Vizag city on Thursday night. Alka Singh’s husband Balbir Singh is a ICG commandant and he was stationed in Odisha’s coast a few days ago. The police took the accused Anmol Singh (20) into their custody for interrogation.
The Malkapuram police said Alka Singh was murdered by Anmol Singh between 4 pm and 6 pm on Thursday. However, it came to light when Alka Singh’s younger son Ayushman Singh returned home from the college and he alerted the neighbours as well as the Malkapuram police.
Speaking to TOI, Inspector Malkapuram S Vidya Sagar, said Anmol Singh is a third year BTech student of a private engineering college and he is allegedly suffering from bipolar disorder (mental illness that causes clear shifts in a person’s mood, energy, activity levels and concentration).
“Our preliminary investigation has revealed that Anmol Singh was addicted to online games and he used to play the online games on his laptop. He was enraged after his mother Alka Singh asked him to stop playing the online games. Fed up with online games addiction, Alka Singh had taken Anmol Singh’s mobile phone and laptop and she confiscated the electronic gadgets, resulting in a heated confrontation between them” said Vidya Sagar.
Unable to control his anger, Anmol Singh killed her by stabbing her, locked the body in a room. When Alka Singh’s younger son Ayushman Singh arrived home from college, he found Alka Singh was lying dead in a pool of blood. The police have recovered a knife from a bag in the house. We have shifted the body for post-mortem and the investigation is on to expose some more facts in the murder case, the police added.
