The 64th successful organ donation at NCH Surat involved Ashish Birani (45), who hailed from Sikarada village in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. His donated organs included two kidneys, liver, and corneas. Birani, who lived in the Parvat village area, collapsed due to high blood pressure while visiting a monk in Ratlam. Following initial treatment at a private facility there and subsequent care in Ahmedabad, he was admitted to NCH Surat’s ICU on Jan 18.
After his condition deteriorated, doctors counselled the family regarding organ donation. The medical team included Dr Ketan Naik, Dr Nilesh Kachhadiya, Dr Hemal Cheda, Dr Keyur Prajapati, Iqbal Kadiwala, Dr Dharitri Parmar, and NCH staff.
The second organ donation was from 31-year-old Vijay Bhabhor at SMIMER hospital on Tuesday. His kidneys, liver, and corneas were donated through the NGO Donate Life, which promotes organ donation.
Bhabhor was a native of Chandwana village in Dahod and lived near Shiv Temple in the Ichhapor area of the city. He worked as a gardener.
On Jan 17 evening, he and his wife Sharda met with an accident when a goat collided with their bicycle near Ichhapor police chowky. After suffering serious head injuries, he received initial treatment at NCH Surat before being transferred to SMIMER hospital under Dr Mitesh Trivedi’s care.
After being declared brain dead, Bhabhor’s family consented to donating his organs. The procedure involved Dr Jitendra Darshan, Dr Archana Nema, Dr Dipesh Kakkad, Dr Deepika Patel, Dr Ruchir Parekh, and Nilesh Mandlewala from Donate Life.
