Ahmedabad: Naroda police of the city late on Saturday evening arrested an SRP cop, his father — a retired assistant sub-inspector (ASI) — and his wife for abetment to suicide of the cop’s wife.
The accused, Mitesh Vania‘s wife, Viraj Vania, on Saturday morning first killed her seven-year-old son, Riddhim, by throwing him from the third floor of their flat, Sarathi Residency, in Hanspura locality in Naroda.
The deceased’s family members accused Mitesh and his family members of subjecting Viraj to domestic violence during a decade-long marriage.
On the family’s accusations, police arrested Mitesh, his father Dhanji Vania, and mother Savita Vania from their house for abetment to suicide, said inspector Mahesh Patel of Naroda police.
Patel said that Mitesh worked with the dog squad in Himmatnagar.
The woman, who was married in 2014, was constantly harassed by the trio, forcing her to commit suicide, alleged Viraj’s brother Vikesh Solanki, an army jawan.
Speaking to the media, Solanki revealed, “Viraj often shared her ordeal over phone calls, but never left her marital home due to her son’s speech ailment. He could barely speak and was undergoing therapy.”
“Someone from her husband’s family would accompany her even if she was just visiting the neighbour. This Rakshabandhan, I requested her to come to the army cantonment, but she was initially denied permission to visit me,” Solanki alleged.
“We had to pressure the family into allowing her to meet me. A week later, when my aunty who stayed near her house met Viraj, she noticed injury marks on her. My sister was assaulted for meeting me on Rakshabandhan day,” he further said.
