France star forward Kylian Mbappe opined that the best way for him to get to the World Cup in North America is on the back of a successful conclusion to the campaign with Spanish side Real Madrid.
Real Madrid hope for a deep run at the UCL and work towards usurping Barcelona in the La Liga table as the season heads to its business end.
“The best way to get to the World Cup in great shape is to win everything with Real Madrid”, the World Cup winner said.
Real are paired up against Bayern Munich in the quarterfinal of the Champions League and Mbappe lauded the Bavarian giants, while adding that the Spanish heavyweights are the best bet to edge out Vincent Kompany and company.
“Bayern are probably the most in-form team in Europe. But if there’s a team that can beat them, it’s Real Madrid”, the 27-year-old said.
France eased to a 3-1 victory over Colombia in their final warm-up match before flying to North America for the World Cup in June.
A brace from PSG starlet Desire Doue and a goal from Marcus Thuram overshadowed Jaminton Campaz’s consolation strike for the South Americans.
Doue opened the scoring around the half-hour mark, and Thuram doubled the lead for the two-time world champions in the 41st minute.
France extended their advantage when Doue struck again in the 56th minute, before Campaz’s goal denied Les Bleus a clean sheet without causing them further trouble.
France had also recorded a 2-1 win over South American heavyweights Brazil, with Kylian Mbappe and Hugo Ekitike on target for the Europeans.
Mbappe broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute, and Ekitike made it 2-0 in the 65th minute. Gleison Bremer pulled one back in the 78th minute to halve the deficit, but Brazil were unable to find an equaliser.
