Tina Ahuja opens up about Govinda-David Dhawan fallout, her struggles with casting stereotypes: 'It was irritating'

Tina Ahuja, daughter of Bollywood superstar Govinda, recently addressed the much-discussed fallout between her father and filmmaker David Dhawan during her debut in the industry as well as her struggles with casting directors who often make assumptions about her due to her lineage.
When asked about Govinda-David Dhawan controversy, Tina told Bollywood Bubble, “Interesting, but honestly, I felt like—why should they? Why should it be like… In short, no one has taken on the responsibility of giving me a break. And why should they? If they felt there was something that would be right for me, they would have done it. It’s not about that. What I feel is that you cannot be dependent on others all the time.”
Tina revealed she doesn’t dwell on these issues. “I’ve never thought, ‘Oh, they should have launched me.’ No, I mean kisine mera thekha nahi lekar rakha hai (nobody owes me). At any given time, I just do what I feel is the best for me. That’s what I’ve learned from my dad—never be dependent on anybody. You cannot be a cranky child at all.”

Tina also shed light on her struggles with casting directors, who, she claimed, often made assumptions about her. She revealed that many questioned her decisions to seek opportunities outside her family’s influence, often commenting that she already had an “institute at home.” Tina admitted that the repeated inquiries became frustrating, leading her to focus on working with her father and pursuing projects she genuinely enjoyed.
She expressed her openness to screen and look tests, despite the assumptions made about her. Tina noted that some in the industry doubted whether she would be willing to participate in auditions simply because she was Govinda’s daughter. However, she maintained that she was always open to proving herself but couldn’t control the narratives people created about her.

Discussing her career choices, Tina said she eventually decided to focus on projects that brought her joy, including music videos and short films. She emphasized that these decisions were driven by passion rather than arrogance, as she sought roles that resonated with her interests.
