India’s singles player Sumit Nagal continued his struggles with another first-round exit from the ATP Challenger circuit on Monday.
Sixth-seeded Nagal lost 4-6, 6-7 (4) to unseeded Frenchman Geoffrey Blancaneaux in the opening round of the €145,250 clay-court event.
Despite being down a set and a break, Nagal broke back in the eighth game of the second set, briefly raising hopes of a comeback.
However, inconsistent serving from both players led to a second-set tie-breaker, which Blancaneaux ultimately won.
This marks Nagal’s sixth first-round defeat on the Challenger circuit in the 2025 season. His ranking has dropped to 170 from inside the top 100 at the start of the year.
