Gandhinagar: The state govt said on Friday that apart from providing training to newly appointed officers in the administration, 268 candidates from the Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA) got final selection in the UPSC examination since 1992. Twenty-six candidates from SPIPA were successful in the 2023 UPSC exam, the govt said.
An official statement said that SPIPA has been instrumental in realising the govt’s goal of providing good governance, as it organises training for Class 1 and Class 2 officers and Class 3 employees. An exam is conducted at the end of this training, which must be passed within the stipulated attempts by every officer and employee. In 2023-24, 2,540 candidates participated in 22 pre-service training and departmental exams for promotion, and in 2024-25, 2,938 candidates participated in 12 such exams between April and Nov.
The statement added that SPIPA conducts training programmes for probationary IAS officers and state govt officers and employees, including departmental training during service on various rules and regulations, induction training, training on the Right to Information, and citizen rights related to public services.
To provide high-level training for UPSC administrative service and its related exams to more youth in the state, SPIPA and its regional training centres in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot and Mehsana, as well as Gujarat Commerce College, conduct training for selected candidates, the statement said.
Additionally, a study centre has been operational since 2013-14 to train Gujarat’s youth for recruitment exams conducted by institutions like IBPS, RBI, SBI, LIC etc. Every year, after an entrance exam process, intensive free training is provided to about 100 selected young men and women at SPIPA.
