NEW DELHI: Two men accused of killing a businessman in Delhi last month have been injured in a police encounter in the early hours of Thursday, officials said. According to police, the encounter took place near a CNG pump on the BRT Corridor in South Delhi. The suspects were on a motorcycle when they allegedly opened fire on police officers. The police returned fire, injuring both men. They were taken to hospital and are currently under treatment. The pair had been on the run since 15 May, when 38-year-old Arun Lohia was shot dead while driving his SUV in the Chhatarpur area of Delhi. His father, Rambir Lohia, was seated next to him and witnessed the entire incident. The Lohias were returning from a court hearing in Saket when they were caught in traffic near a local gurdwara. According to Rambir, the two men ran up to their vehicle and began firing at close range. Arun, the intended target, was killed on the spot. “My son was driving when he was shot. There was no chance to escape,” Rambir said. Police have not yet revealed the motive behind the killing but confirmed that the two men injured in the encounter are the prime suspects in the case. An investigation is ongoing.
