Snatcher shot during police encounter

New Delhi: A snatcher was shot at during an encounter with police in Aman Vihar on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Rajkumar, a resident of Sultanpuri, was involved in two snatching incidents that had occurred within 20 minutes. One of the accused, Rohit alias Datla, was arrested earlier. Interrogation revealed the name of Rajkumar as his accomplice in snatchings in the area.
Police received information on Saturday that the suspect would meet his associate at Central Park, Aman Vihar, late at night. A trap was laid, and a person was seen entering the park on a bike. When police attempted to apprehend him, he fired a gunshot to escape. The police team fired a warning shot in the air, but he fired another shot. In self-defence, the police team fired a shot that hit him in the right leg. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Rajkumar has a history of involvement in four cases of theft and snatching. A school dropout, he entered the life of crime in 2015. Unemployed, he committed crimes to sustain himself. A country-made pistol, two live cartridges, a stolen bike from Punjabi Bagh, and four empty cartridge shells were recovered from the scene.
