Surat: An quarrel over removing a motorcycle blocking the building entrance escalated into a fatal altercation when a 45-year-old shopkeeper was murdered by a labourer in Udhna on Monday.
Police arrested the assailant identified as Neeraj Gangsagar, who allegedly stabbed Subhash Khatik to death after the latter told him to shift the bike blocking his way into the entrance of Mahavir Complex near Udhna-Dindoli bridge.
According to details, Khatik, who owns a fair price shop near Sahara Darwaja, dropped his father near Udhna station on a bike and proceeded to meet his elder brother, who owns an electronics shop in the commercial complex.
On reaching the building, he saw a bike was blocking the way to the entrance and a man sitting on it. Khatik told him to remove the bike, but Gangsagar informed him that the two-wheeler did not belong to him. However, Khatik continued to insist that he remove the bike even if it belonged to someone else. As the quarrel intensified, Khatik started abusing and beating Gangsagar.
After engaging in a physical fight with Khatik, Gangsagar pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed him in the chest, leaving him dead on the spot, said Udhna police inspector S N Desai.
