Objection to marriage plans triggered triple murder? Cops probe

New Delhi: Delhi Police is looking into whether Arjun Tanwar’s family had objected to his marriage plans, leading him to kill his father, mother and sister in Neb Sarai on Wednesday. Investigators are exploring if the 20-year-old’s desire to marry a girl from a different social background met with fierce family resistance.
Sources say Tanwar pressured his family to accept his partner, but they did not relent, citing societal differences. This rejection allegedly fuelled Tanwar’s murderous rage. And then the humiliation of being publicly thrashed, it is believed, prodded him into familicide, sources said.
A police source disclosed that Tanwar told the cops his father had once humiliated him and his female friend. “The humiliation was due to his unemployment and aimless wandering,” the source said. “Rajesh Talwar, according to Arjun, also scolded the girl, leading to heated exchanges between father and son.” During one such incident, when the father scolded Tanwar, some labourers at a nearby construction site heard them and laughed at the youth, greatly embarrassing him. Relatives told the cops that they didn’t know the father-son relationship had reached such a state as to end in murder.
When the investigators asked the accused about his post-murder plans, Tanwar disclosed that he intended to sell the house, which was a constant reminder of his troubled past, and planned to relocate to a different place, hoping to start anew.
During questioning, the young man apparently showed no remorse. Instead, he asked investigators about the jail term he would receive and when he would be released. “He appeared normal and seemed to have no tension or regret about wiping out his family,” a police source revealed. The cops may engage counsellors to carry out a psychiatric assessment of the murder accused.
Investigations also showed that Rajesh Tanwar had made substantial financial provisions for his children’s future. Specifically, he invested Rs 5 lakh in a fixed deposit for his son and Rs 15 lakh for his daughter. The murder was reported on Wednesday. The ex-Armyman, his wife, Komal, and daughter, Kavita, were found with their throat slit and other injuries on their bodies in their residence. The alleged murderer, the son, attempted to mislead police by going for his morning walk and then “discovering” the murders on his return.
