While Shiva is associated with the destructive forces of nature, he has a mystical side that is rarely understood or explored. The powerful Hindu god also has a human side that makes him approachable to the devotees.
Sadguru recently took to his Twitter handle to share his feeling about the human side of the powerful deity. He wrote:
“If Shiva did not grieve over Sati’s terrible demise, I would not consider him Divine at all. He was not inhuman, but Super Human.”
A blog published on Isha.Sadguru explains Shiva as “Nothingness.” The blog reads:
“Today, modern science is proving to us that everything comes from nothing and goes back to nothing. The basis of existence and the fundamental quality of the cosmos is vast nothingness. The galaxies are just a small happening – a sprinkling. The rest is all vast empty space, which is referred to as Shiva. That is the womb from which everything is born, and that is the oblivion into which everything is sucked back. Everything comes from Shiva and goes back to Shiva.”
The enlightened masters of the past realized that Shiva is the Brahman, the absolute reality, in his unmanifested form and the entire creation or Ishvara in his manifested form. Shiva is known by many names and is one of the primary gods of the holy trinity: Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshwara.
An article published on ScholarBlogs mentions the following:
“Shiva has many titles and forms, and can be seen differently by every one of his worshippers. He is a part of the trimurti, a triad of the three most powerful Hindu gods. Brahma is “the creator”, Vishnu is “the preserver”, and Shiva is “the destroyer.” Together, they make up the cycle of the universe. While in Western thought, destruction is generally seen as a bad thing, “destruction in Hindu belief implies reproduction” (Iyengar). To Hindus, destruction is just a holy act necessary for new birth…”
According to Shaivites, a sect that predates Hinduism, Shiva is free of time and space and does not have to rely on Trimurti to complete the cycles of creation and destruction. He is the ultimate reality that creates, preserves, and destroys universes.
The ScholarBlog article mentions:
“Shaivism, the worship of Shiva, is a sect of Hinduism. Although it is a sect, Shaivism is actually a precursor to Hinduism. Shaivites hold the belief that Shiva is the supreme god and does not depend on the trimurti to complete the cycle of the universe. This sect formed over 8,000 years ago, to a time that even predates the Vedic time period…”
