It doesn’t matter how the latest Abhishek Bachchan slice-of-life drama, I Want To Talk, is performing at the box office. The film has received widespread appreciation, with both fans and critics praising its emotional depth. Now, veteran actress Shabana Azmi has added her voice to the list of admirers. It is worth noting that Azmi and Bachchan previously teamed up for Ghoomer, where Bachchan referred to her performance as the best he had ever seen in the film.
Taking to Instagram, Azmi shared a screengrab from I Want To Talk and called Abhishek’s portrayal “undoubtedly his career best.” She added, “Sincere and deeply felt, he gives himself to the character completely. It is remarkable to see him let go of an actor’s inherent vanity. Shabaash.”
Directed by Shoojit Sircar, I Want To Talk is based on a true story. In the film, Abhishek plays the role of a dying father trying to connect with his daughter. He is joined by Banita Sandhu, Johnny Lever, Jayant Kriplani, and Ahilya Bamroo in key roles. This marks Bachchan’s first project with Sircar, whose previous works include Vicky Donor, Piku, and Sardar Udham.
Although the film’s first-week box office collection stands at just Rs 1.94 crore, its emotional storytelling continues to resonate with audiences.

Abhishek’s father, the legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, also praised the movie. Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Amitabh expressed his pride with an emotional message, “MAGICal” is the IN word. My love, blessings, and more. Mere bete, bete hone se mere uttaradhikari nahin honge, jo mere uttaradhikari honge woh mere bete honge. Abhishek mere bete; mere uttaradhikari.” (My son’s status as a son does not mean he is my successor; those who become my successors are my sons. Abhishek is both my son and my successor.)
Abhishek has an exciting lineup of films ahead. He will first appear in Be Happy, a dance drama directed by Remo D’Souza, starring alongside Nora Fatehi, which will release on Amazon Prime Video. He will also feature in the much-anticipated Housefull 5 by Sajid Nadiadwala, alongside Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Sanjay Dutt, which is scheduled for release in June 2025.
