Condemning Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on B.R. Ambedkar on Tuesday in Rajya Sabha during the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament, the Kalaburagi district unit of Students Federation of India (SFI) staged a protest here on Thursday and burnt posters of Mr. Shah.

Expressing that the remarks made by Mr. Shah are an insult to the architect of the Constitution, the agitators said that Mr. Shah has undermined Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions towards India’s democratic framework and upliftment of the marginalised sections.

Recalling an incident involving Dalit student Rohith Vemula who committed suicide after facing alleged caste-based discrimination at a university in Hyderabad, the agitating students claimed that universities have become “mere killing fields” under the BJP rule.

They said that the BJP-led Central government continues to ignore Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes by reducing funds allocation in scholarship and fellowship meant for them.
