About the Job
Tesco is hiring for the position of Senior Associate – Legal Counsel (Property).
The selected candidate will support, under guidance, the Group Legal and UK Property teams by handling aspects of UK-related non-contentious real estate work.
After undergoing the internal induction and training programme covering key UK property legal skills, the role will primarily focus on drafting, negotiating, reviewing, and managing UK property documentation and related compliance processes.
Eligibility
- Qualified commercial contracts or real estate lawyer
- Minimum 2 years of post-qualification experience
- Experience in an international environment (UK preferred but not essential)
- Proficiency and knowledge of UK property laws (preferred)
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to work independently and cross-functionally
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Required Skills & Expertise
- Strong knowledge of contract law (UK Property Law preferred but not essential)
- Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts
- Ability to provide pragmatic and commercial legal advice
- Ability to manage contractual risk effectively
- Strong stakeholder management skills
Responsibilities
- Negotiating, drafting, and reviewing non-contentious UK property contracts including:
- Leases
- Tenancy at Will
- License to Assign
- License for Alterations
- License to Occupy
- Rent Deposit Deed
- Deed of Variation
- Deed of Surrender
- Non-disclosure Agreements
- Conducting title due diligence and reporting
- Coordinating with internal Property and Legal teams to ensure timely delivery of real estate matters
- Collaborating with external law firms for efficient legal service delivery
- Managing and updating templates and playbooks
- Downloading Land Registry documents and making Land Registry applications
- Ensuring compliance with Tesco’s Business Code of Conduct and governance framework
- Representing Talent Acquisition in forums/seminars relating to process, compliance, and audit
- Performing miscellaneous duties as required by management
- Driving continuous improvement (CI) initiatives within the team
