Seminar on The Ideological Foundations of the Indian State (IFIS 2026)

About CISDR – I.E.R.L.

The Centre for Innovation, Skill Development & Research (CISDR) is the upskilling wing of the Institute of Excellence in Research and Law (I.E.R.L.), committed to promoting quality legal education, research excellence, and skill-based learning opportunities for students. Through various academic initiatives, CISDR aims to empower young legal minds with practical knowledge, critical thinking, and strong ethical foundations.

About the Programme

This two-day intensive academic seminar, scheduled for 28th and 29th March 2026 (7:00 PM onwards), is designed to examine the philosophical, normative, and constitutional ideas that shape the Indian Republic beyond its formal institutional structure.

While the Constitution of India is often studied as a legal and structural document, this seminar invites participants to engage with it at a deeper level—as a living constitutional philosophy that defines not only how the State functions, but what kind of society it seeks to create.

Across these two carefully structured days, the seminar will explore the core ideological commitments embedded within the Indian constitutional order, including socialism, secularism, democracy, justice, liberty, equality, fraternity, and welfare constitutionalism.

It aims to cultivate constitutional depth, analytical maturity, and philosophical clarity among participants by encouraging them to move beyond surface-level constitutional understanding and engage with the Constitution as a moral, political, and transformative project.

Speaker

Subhranil Bhowmik is a constitutional educator, legal researcher, and academic mentor with a strong commitment to advancing legal education through critical, concept-driven teaching and interdisciplinary scholarship. He is the Founder of the Institute of Excellence in Research and Law (I.E.R.L.) and Co-Founder of the Imperial Institute of Legal Studies (I.I.L.S.), where he has led several academic initiatives centered on constitutional studies, public law, legal research training, legislative drafting, and skill-based legal education.

Academically, he has pursued a PGDL from the University of Law, Bloomsbury Campus, London, and holds a B.Sc. LL.B. (Hons. in Criminal Law) from KIIT Law School. His work is particularly distinguished by its emphasis on conceptual clarity, constitutional philosophy, critical legal analysis, and a deeper exploration of the moral and ideological foundations of the Indian constitutional order.

In addition to teaching and mentoring students in constitutional law, legal reasoning, and public law, he has also authored and edited multiple academic works in the areas of constitutional studies, legal theory, human rights, and interdisciplinary legal research, reflecting his broader vision of using education as a transformative tool for intellectual and social development.
