National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval spoke about India’s engagement at the topmost level since the war between Russia and Ukraine broke out. India has communicated the importance of maintaining regional peace and harmony to both war-torn nations.
Doval made these observations at a summit held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where top officials from forty countries participated. The summit hosted by Saudi Arabia was specifically held to discuss the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Countries such as the US, China, and India participated in the event held on Saturday.
The countries that participated in the summit are expecting the possibility of ending the conflict with peaceful resolutions that would work for both the war-torn countries.
In addition to mentioning India’s continuous communication with Russia and Ukraine, NSA Doval said that India supports the principles of the UN Charter for global order. Doval also emphasized the importance of nations respecting the territorial sovereignty of countries. Furthermore, Doval highlighted the significance of finding a peaceful resolution to the ongoing war.
According to the NSA, the entire Global South has been impacted in some ways due to the war. An article published on The Economic Times reads:
“The NSA also noted that the entire Global South is bearing the consequences of the conflict, however India is providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine, as it has always believed in promoting dialogue and diplomacy.”
Doval is learnt to have said that the NSAs’ meeting faces a two-fold challenge — resolution of the situation and softening the consequences of the conflict, and efforts are needed on both fronts,” the article further reads.
The impact of the war has been devastating for some countries. From food shortages to oil price hikes, nations in the Global South are finding it difficult to make ends meet. Although the summit at Jeddah had its positives, Russia believes that the negotiations are “doomed to fail.”
While peaceful negotiations are what the world needs, if the peace talks tilts a bit towards Ukraine, Russia might not take it too kindly. The leaders of the world must find a middle path to bring an end to the war for the good of the world.
